On the evening of 6 April, SpaceX successfully delivered 21 Starlink broadband communications satellites into orbit. The launch occurred from a coastal base in California, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket that also carried six cellular phone communications satellites. The launch occurred from Vandenberg Space Force Base on the central coast of California at 22:25 North American Eastern Time (19:25 local California time; 7 April at 02:25 Greenwich Mean Time). The Falcon 9 rocket’s first stage successfully returned to Earth eight minutes after liftoff, performing a planned vertical landing on the Of Course I Still Love You offshore platform in the Pacific Ocean. According to the mission description provided by SpaceX, this is the sixth successful flight and landing of the first stage. Subsequently, the upper stage proceeded to carry the 21 Starlink satellites into low orbit, where they were deployed 62.5 minutes after liftoff. Over two-thirds of SpaceX’s missions in 2024 have been dedicated to the construction of the Starlink mega-constellation, which currently comprises over 5,650 operational satellites. This launch represents the second in a series of launches conducted over the past two days. The previous occasion was on the morning of 5 April, when SpaceX launched 23 Starlink broadband satellites into orbit from the US Space Force Station Cape Canaveral in Florida. The company had originally planned to launch 21 Starlink satellites from Space Force Base Vandenberg on the evening of 5 April, but the launch was cancelled due to unfavourable meteorological conditions.
